Schoolchildren say ‘no' to plastic

August 12, 2011 01:13 pm | Updated 01:13 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

“Say no to plastic carry bags.” This was the message in unison from schoolchildren at an awareness meet on ban on plastic carry bags organised by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) here on Thursday. Highlighting the ill-effects of plastic, the students said, “Future generations deserve the same beautiful environment that you and we have been able to enjoy.” A contingent of these forward-thinking young people presented their ban-the-plastic case to their fellow students at the meet. And, students joined hands in a campaign to end the use of plastic carry bags in the city.

Explaining the impact and alternatives to single-use plastic bags, they said, “We strongly believe that these bags are directly connected to our health and the future of our beautiful city and our planet.”
