Most schools in Vijayawada ushered in Sankranti flavour much before the actual festival by organising a series of events on their campuses.
At the primary wing of Nalanda Vidya Niketan, a two-day ‘Sankranti Sambaraalu’ festivity brought the campus alive. A series of fun activities spread across the two days kept the children and their parents busy and entertained. The first day saw the students vying with one another in events like ‘Star Kids Show’, rangoli, and clay moulding contests.
An action-packed schedule awaited the participants on the second day when they enthusiastically took part in cookery contest, fruit and vegetable carving, best out of waste, fabric painting, glass painting, pot painting, mehendi designing, a fashion show, and other exciting events.
Former MP Chennupati Vidya, the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to winners of the various events.
The school campus radiated a rustic charm with the children successfully creating a village-like atmosphere dotted with gangireddu, haridasu, and cockfights, essential components of Sankranti festival.
Ms. Vidya complimented the school management for passing on the traditional customs to the present generation. She said it was the responsibility of each individual to preserve the rich culture of Telugu land and its people.
Akshara International School, in its Ashok Nagar campus, organised events for children and their parents. Divided in two parts, the first event – a rangoli competition, drew participation of a good number of girl students, their mothers and grandmothers.
The boys, their fathers and grand-fathers, an exciting contest of kite-flying awaited.
Principal Sarada Anil Kumar said the school made it a point to involve parents of the children in all activities organised on the campus.
