Sand SHGs come up short in CM’s view

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday observed that irregularities were occurring at the sand reaches due to the failure of DWCRA groups to take complete responsibility for the operations and transactions.

Despite introducing technology to monitor the operations at sand reaches, it was unfortunate that irregularities were being reported, he said.

Out of the 9000 vehicles employed at sand reaches, nearly 6300 were equipped with GPS technology. Mr. Naidu asked officials to complete the installation of GPS devices in the rest of the vehicles by October 15.

Officials said surveillance cameras have been installed at 44 reaches so far. All the 136 reaches in the State will be so equipped by October 30.

The waiting time and loading time at sand reaches will be monitored online, besides taking note of vehicles passing through the geo-fencing system installed at the reaches, officials told Mr. Naidu during a review meeting on sand mining here on Saturday.

Officials also said BSNL has expressed willingness to offer internet connectivity at all the sand reaches at a discounted price.
