Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman L. Venugopal Reddy said that Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) is a premier institution which was providing quality education to thousands of students.
Prof. Venugopal Reddy, who was the former Vice-Chancellor of ANU, praised the successive V-Cs of the varsity who had developed the institution into a good education centre.
Speaking at the 37th Foundation Day celebrations of ANU here on Saturday, he recalled his association with the university. He explained the students on how Acharya Nagarjuna University was developed in a phased manner in the last three and a half decades.
Good infrastructure
Mr. Venugopal Reddy, who also served as Andhra University V-C, remembered that with the help of donors and cooperation of the staff, many good buildings, labs and administrative buildings were constructed on ANU campus, and the Centre for Distance Education was launched during his tenure.
The APSCHE Chairman, who assumed charge recently, assured to strengthen higher education system in the State, by recruiting faculty in degree colleges and engineering colleges.
“Recently, the Cabinet Committee has approved Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Act, and is expected to begin from June next year. If RUSA is implemented, funding would be routed through APSCHE, which will help improve the higher education system in Andhra Pradesh,” said Prof. Venugopal Reddy.
ANU Vice-Chancellor K. Viyanna Rao detailed the achievements of the university. Former V-Cs V. Balamohandas, D. Rama Kotaiah, C.V. Raghavulu and Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, ANU Rector Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, and Registrar Lakshmikantam spoke.
Felicitated
Earlier, Prof. Viyanna Rao and former Vice-Chancellors felicitated Prof. Venugopal Reddy at a separate programme. The university staff presented ‘Prathiba Puraskarams’ to 11 eminent persons in different fields on the occasion. The university staff appealed to Prof. Venugopal Reddy to set up regional centres of the Council, increase the superannuation age to 65 years and fill the teaching and non-teaching posts in the university.
