Sports is an essential extra curricular activity that should be made part of every school’s curriculum, Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, Ake Ravikrishna said here on Saturday.
Mr. Ravikrishna, who inaugurated the 56th A.P State Rifle Shooting Championship on the premises of Little Flower English Medium High School, expressed his concern that stress has permeated education at all levels, including primary and secondary education.
“Teachers and parents should take steps to take stress out of education by encouraging children to pursue a healthy sporting activity,’’ the SP said in his inaugural address.
The SP had also word of encouragement for students. “Do not get bogged by small failures but rather work on your strengths,’’ he said.
Rifle Shooting as a sport teaches the students to concentrate on their target and enhances their concentration levels, he said.
Inspector of Physical Education Ch. Venkat Rao, school correspondent Fathima Marreddy, principal Sr. Tresa, school games observer Ravindra, secretary district Y. Srinivasa Rao, and physical director cum coach S. Venkateswarulu were present.
More than 120 participants from 13 districts took part in the championship.
