Members of Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation Limited (APBCL) Welfare Association have requested the State government to come to their rescue as employees were staring at uncertain future after the Income Tax Department sealed the depots for failing to pay the arrears.
In a memorandum submitted to Excise Commissioner I. Srinivasa Srinaresh, association members led by its general secretary J. Sudha Ratnakar said the State government started selling liquor to retail outlets using other depots in the State after the IT department sealed APBCL’s depots.
On receiving oral instructions, employees of the APBCL started working in these depots to generate revenue to the government. As many as 196 regularised employees and 195 unskilled employees were working in the APBCL. “We want the government to either amalgamate the APBCL with the Excise Department or post the employees to other departments,” he said. Mr. Ratnakar said that the Commissioner promised to sort the problem within a week.
