As part of its efforts to tap the full potential of solar and wind energy, the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) has proposed to set up Renewable Energy Management Centres (REMC) in all districts in the years ahead. The first such facility will be coming up in the Green Energy Corridor being established in Anantapur and Kadapa districts.
According to top officials in the NREDCAP, a nodal REMC will be set up at the State Load Despatch Centre being constructed on the AP-Transco Circle Office premises at Gunadala in Vijayawada before the district-level centres take shape in a phased manner.
The REMC will monitor renewable generation on a real-time basis and also make forecasts for hassle-free integration of solar and wind energies with the grid. NREDCAP Vice-Chairman and Managing Director M. Kamalakar Babu has told The Hindu that REMCs are in a nascent stage and they will facilitate proper scheduling and despatch of the renewable forms of energy.
“Coupled with the renewable energy storage facilities which are being built in Andhra Pradesh as a pilot project, the REMC will ensure optimum utilisation of solar and wind energies. It will also be useful in smooth transition from the existing solar / wind model to hybrid power,” he has observed.
Mr. Babu has further said the rooftop generation of 200 Kilo Watts of solar energy by VMC in technical collaboration with PPS Enviro Power Private Limited is a harbinger of the rooftop model being promoted by the government.
