He has no real concern for farmers, says Yerrannaidu

The Telugu Desam Party has criticised AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi's padayatra against the land acquisition in Uttar Pradesh and termed it a political drama.

Taking a dig at Mr. Gandhi's agitation TDP Polit Bureau member K. Yerrannaidu alleged that the Gandhi scion was targeting non-Congress governments. He has no real concern for the farmers, he said.

At a press conference the TDP leader said if Mr. Rahul Gandhi were sincere with real concern for the farmers, he would have visited Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress government here was forcefully acquiring agriculture lands, Mr. Naidu alleged. He sought to know if Mr. Gandhi could not see the acquisition of thousands of acres of poor farmers under the garb of Special Economic Zones.

He toured Uttar Pradesh and Orissa as Congress was not in power there, he said. “The Congress leaders portray him as the future Prime Minister and if he adopted double standards for Congress and non-Congress governments, how can he rule the country? His padayatra and statements on the land acquisition Act were mere political stunt,” he said.

The AICC general secretary had remained silent over plight of farmers in Andhra Pradesh as the Congress high command also had share in the kickbacks in land acquisition, he alleged.

Among those present were MLCs Y. Babu Rajendraprasad and Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, and former mayor P. Anuradha.
