A battalion of Rapid Action Force (RAF) led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Papa Rao, has completed its seven-day tour of the district marking the Police Commemoration Week celebrations.
The RAF men conducted mock drills at Police Parade Grounds here on Monday during rehearsals for the parade to mark the conclusion of the celebrations on Tuesday. The jawans, dressed in battle fatigues, displayed their skills to control mob.
SP P.H.D. Ramakrishna, Additional S.P (Guntur Rural) J. Bhaskara Rao and Additional S.P (Guntur Urban) Srinivasa Rao were present.
The RAF battalion comprising 70 personnel visited Mangalagiri, Pedakakani, Ponnur, part of Guntur town, Vinukonda, Narsaraopet and Sattenapalli and conducted a flag march to instil confidence among people.
“We are visiting Guntur district every two years after the district has been listed among communally sensitive regions by the Ministry of Home Affairs. During these visits, we work with the local police and conduct flag marches in towns,’’ said Mr. Papa Rao.
The RAF battalion is returning to Hyderabad on Tuesday. Established in 1992, the RAF was instituted to combat communal violence. The forces are trained in mob control and are equipped with all machinery to control larger crowds and maintain public order .
