Praja Rajyam Party president K. Chiranjeevi on Monday hinted that his party was likely to support the Congress in the by-elections scheduled to be held in Telangana on the plank of Samaikhya Andhra.
The PRP chief was here on the last leg of his Bus Yatra for the Indira Sagar Project to interact with the project victims from East Godavari, West Godavari and Khammam districts and to take stock of its progress. He is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a request for early completion of the project and to ensure justice to the project-affected persons.
Saying that coalition politics had become order of the day in the present-day politics, he explained that his party had decided to sail with the Congress during the Rajya Sabha elections because of its secular credentials.
‘Much in common'
Besides, the PRP also found like-mindedness in the Congress on its other initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Right to Information Act and the Right to Education which all intended to address the rural poverty, transparency in administration and literacy.
In the same breath, he maintained that the he reserved his party's right to expose the ruling UPA regime on corruption, hike in petroleum products and the spiraling prices of essential commodities.
Mr. Chiranjeevi took a dig at the CPI and CPI (M) for criticising his party for aligning with the Congress.
He said the Left parties, who are sailing with the TDP even after the latter being responsible for the Basheer Bagh police firing on the anti-power reform protesters during its regime, lost the moral right to criticize on the Congress-PRP tie-up.
Mr. Chiranjeevi said his support to the Congress should not be viewed as the PRP being a party to the reported plans of the Congress to checkmate Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
