Born premature even before completion of six months of gestation and weighing only 720 gm, a baby girl is doing well at the Anurag Institute of Medical Sciences.
Doctors, who treated the mother and baby, called the premature birth as a rare situation which was dealt with successfully. The baby and mother are back home after months of treatment and observation.
In vitro fertilization
Madhavi of Umamaheswara Puram in Bapulapadu mandal of the district became pregnant, through in vitro fertilization, after 19 years of marriage with her husband Shaym, according to Dr. V. Nagamalleswara Rao, Chief Neonatal Intensivist.
Dr. Rao said that Ms. Madhavi later faced a difficult situation where she had to deliver the baby after the fifth month of gestation resulting in the birth of the baby girl weighing only 720 gm. All doctors and nursing staff treated the woman and the foetus with utmost care to save them.
After birth, the newborn was put in an incubator and after 77 days of care she gained 1,720 gm of weight, Dr. Rao said. “It is a very rare case and survival of baby is not possible even when baby weighs 900 gm after gestation period of 28 weeks.”
