The city police, in association with the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, will install Closed Circuit (CC) Cameras at all major junctions and public places, to keep a tab on terrorist suspects.
The decision was taken in view of the recent bomb blasts in Hyderabad, in which 16 people were killed and several others were injured. Following the intelligence reports that terrorists might strike in other parts of the State, the police sounded an alert and are taking steps to prevent the attacks.
The police identified busy junctions and public places and held discussions with VMC Commissioner G.S. Panda Das, who agreed to install CC cameras at 750 places in the city.
The cameras would help observe the movements of anti-social elements round the clock, said Commissioner of Police N. Madhusudhan Reddy.
Notices served
Notices were served on cycle shop owners to maintain records. All the shopping malls, cinema theatres, restaurants and other establishment managements were instructed to arrange CC cameras and scan machines with trained security personnel.

“Police are doing sensitization programmes by giving PowerPoint presentations at public places on how to identify the unclaimed luggage and vehicles. We are showing the photographs and video clippings of blast sites, suicide bombers, bloodshed and the trauma of the victims to enlighten the public”, said Mr. Reddy.
Additional security along with CC cameras has been arranged at the Gannavaram airport, Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devastanam, HPCL and IOCL plants and the Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station.
Police are providing training to security personnel and agencies of the companies.
“Instructions were given to keep a vigil on the movements of foreigners and migrants.
Maintaining peace is possible only with the participation of people.
We request the public to cooperate with the police in preventing the terrorist activities and maintain law and order”, said the Police Commissioner.
