Plans afoot to hold Assembly session in Amaravati

October 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The State government is planning to conduct the forthcoming Assembly sessions in the capital region of Amaravati. The last Assembly session was conducted in September at Hyderabad.

Confirming the plan, Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said that the move was being considered and a meeting was also held with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently. It is still in the planning stage and other modalities were being worked out, said Mr. Rao here on Friday on the sidelines of a programme.

It was being done as part of shifting the entire durbar from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Already, the State government has shifted a few departments to the city and flats in the Rain Tree Park opposite the Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur were being considered to provide accommodation for Ministers, secretaries and other senior officials.

In the context of foundation laying ceremony, the government is now considering to conduct at least one assembly session in Amaravati. “It is going to be tough task.

Lot of issues like accommodation to legislators, expenditure involved in conducting the session here than in Hyderabad have to be considered. The plan is to conduct at least a four-day session,” said Mr. Sivaprasada Rao.

Accordingly, a team would be constituted to work out the modalities, identify the location for conducting the session and etc.

Authorities said that if need be, huge tents equipped with pedestal air conditioners would be set up for conducting the session.

They also said a private resort near Mangalagiri and Acharya Nagarjuna University could also be considered to be the venue for the Assembly session.

The exercise is part of shifting the Durbar from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, says Speaker Kodela
