Members of the Vijayawada Children's Schools and Tutorials' Association have expressed serious concern over the government's decision to close down unrecognised schools across the State in the fresh academic year.
The members suggested that instead of insisting on ‘recognition', the government must offer the option of ‘registration' of these unrecognised schools.
“Though the move is aimed at bringing in accountability, it may not augur well for many small schools, especially in rural areas,” K.R. Seshadri Rao, president of the association, told a press conference on Friday.
He said nobody could find fault with the government for insisting on recognition of schools. But the authorities concerned must keep in mind the scores of tiny schools in villages with a nominal strength of 50 to 100 pupils run mostly by the educated unemployed.
Bringing such schools under the new rule would mean thrusting a huge financial burden on them.
Mr. Rao pointed out that these small schools had been equally contributing to the improvement of literacy rate in rural sector and adherence to the new norms was almost impossible for them.
Association's honorary president Devineni Kishore Kumar, joint secretaries P. Ratna Kumar, D. Surendra and P. Anil Kumar and others were present.
