A Memorandum of Understanding recently signed by the Department of Employment and Training, Government of Andhra Pradesh, with the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Chennai, will help many unskilled and semi-skilled people in the State get better job opportunities, said K.R.B.H.N. Chakravarthi, Director of Department of Employment and Training, on Saturday. He said those who pursued courses in plastics engineering would get employment in the country and abroad as well.
Mr. Chakravarthi came to the city along with K. Manoharan, Chief Manager (Projects) and Head, CIPET Centre, Hyderabad, to inspect the implementation of a diploma course in plastics engineering introduced in the Government ITI as part of the MoU. He told the media that it was a first of its kind MoU between a State government department and a Central government organisation.
“In the wake of exploration of petroleum reserves in the Krishna-Godavari basin, this region is going to be the hub of plastic industry in the years to come. Even in the existing industries, there is a shortage of trained manpower and we hope our training programmes will bridge the gap,” he said. Mr. Chakravarthi said a new three-month diploma course called Plastic Process Operator Trade was being offered in seven ITIs across the State, including the one here. The course would be open for those, who passed class VIII and were in the age group of 18-35 years.
Referring to the ITIs in the State, Mr. Chakravarthi said the process of modernising the institutions was in progress and the government had allocated about Rs. 2 crore to each ITI.
Mr. Manoharan expressed happiness over the signing of the MoU and said employment opportunities were aplenty for the right candidates.
