Ten farmers representing various districts of Andhra Pradesh on Monday displayed an incredible talent of their oxen in the village-level bullock-cart race.

Local farmers under the banner of the Grama Vikasa Samithi had invited the farmers to participate in the race, held at Bhavadevarapalli village of Nagayalanka mandal in Krishna district.

Ten farmers registered for the sport in which a pair of oxen has to pull the cart. Divi Grameena Yuvajana Vikasa Samithi president Mandali Venkata Ram flagged off the race in the presence of the farmers from the Nagayalanka mandal.

A pair of oxen owned by Pentyala Rambabu of Prakasam district bagged the first place by completing the one-km run in 4.35 minutes while a pair owned by farmer of Jemigolvepalli village in Krishna district won the second place.

The organizers awarded ₹15,000 to the winner and ₹10,000 to the runner.

The race was conducted for entertainment and testing the running skill of oxen. The animals were not tortured in any manner during the race. The farmers of Bhavadevarapalli conduct the race every year. A huge gathering of visitors thronged the place to witness the race.
