The Department of Posts, in association with World Gold Council and Reliance Money Limited, is selling gold coins bearing India Post logo.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Director of Postal Services, Vijayawada Region, D.S.V.R. Murthy, said 24 carat gold and coins of the denomination 0.5, 1, 5, 8, 10, 20, 50, and 100 grams were available.
The gold coins come packed in a sealed cover with the certification of Valcambi, Switzerland. In Vijayawada division, special counters for sale of gold coins have been opened at the head post office, Buckingham head post office, Venkateswarapuram sub-post office, and Gandhinagar sub-post office.
In Guntur division, they are available at Guntur head post office, Chandramoulinagar sub-post office, Kothapet sub-post office, Guntur Collectorate sub-post office, Guntur bazaar sub-post office, and Pattabhipuram sub-post office.
The facility is also available in Bhimavaram head post office, Eluru head post office, Sriharikota range sub-post office, and Nellore head post office.
In view of the festival season, the department is also offering a 7 per cent discount on purchase of gold coins from October 8 to December 31.
