There was a time when students used to collect books on rent for academic needs. But, with the changing times, they are now borrowing laptops from commercial establishments for completing their projects.
Even professionals and executives working with private organisations also hire laptops from private outlets for power-point presentations.
Cashing in on the trend, outlets dealing with computers and peripherals, are offering laptops on rental basis. In fact, it has become a smart business option for many, as it is equally beneficial to outlet owners, students and professionals. NTR complex in the city, which is a hub for computers, is of late teeming with students and representatives of educational institutions. Shopkeepers charge Rs. 4,000 for availing a personal computer for a month with battery. The amount includes Rs. 2000, which has to be paid in advance. Also, one has to submit identity and residence proofs to utilise the facility.
“We provide the necessary configuration required to clients,” says Raju of K.K. Systems. Personal computers are handed over only after examining documents submitted by clients. In case of physical damage to the equipment, the client has to pay. “We also install anti-virus software before handing over the equipment to customers,” Mr. Raju adds.
On an average, 15 people avail the facility every month. According to Mr. Raju, engineering students, data entry operators and other training institutes are among those who make use of the service.
