Cine actor and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nandamuri Balakrishna on Tuesday, making it amply clear of his intentions to enter the electoral fray said, “There is nothing wrong in aspirations of the people, who want to see me as Chief Minister.”
His statement assumes significance in the wake of rumours doing rounds in the TDP circles that party president N. Chandrababu Naidu was not interested in giving leverage to Mr. Balakrishna in the party.
The actor, was here to participate in a programme organised to promote his latest movie ‘Legend’. On sidelines of it, Mr. Balakrishna said the TDP president would decide whether or not he should contest for Assembly or Parliament. The Assembly segment or Parliamentary constituency would also be decided by the party leadership, he said, adding, “Whatever be the decision I shall honour it. I hope, my fans will respect my decision.”
Earlier, at the Annapoorna theatre here, he thrilled the audience with punchy dialogues from the film. “The film has a message for public. The atrocities against women were on rise in society. The film is aimed at creating awareness among the public,” he said.
The crowd responded with whistles to his dialogues and a brief thanksgiving speech. They welcomed him with huge garlands amidst sloganeering. Film director Boyapati Srinu and others were present.
Meanwhile, TDP leaders, said the actor’s visit was purely personal and the party had nothing to do with it.
