The Students of Akshara International School, Chuttugunta, and Ashok Nagar branches, turned up in the army dress worn by freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to mark his birth anniversary on their school premises on Wednesday.
Children from Classes 1 to 7 participated in the Ashok Nagar School biography, quiz and personality competitions related to Subhas Chandra Bose. Students from Classes 3 to 9 participated enthusiastically in the essay writing and biography competitions.
The school principals K. Prasanthi and Kakarla Sarada Anil Kumar participated in the respective schools, encouraging students to understand the sacrifice of the freedom fighter and emulate his ideals.
These competitions were basically to make the children of this era know at least something about our freedom fighters, they said.
Asking general knowledge questions on history during assembly time everyday, the school was trying to improve the students’ interest in happening around them in the society, a release said. The students were told about the establishment of Indian National Army in 1943 and his call to the people ‘Chalo Delhi and Jai Hind’ and his well-known sentence – ‘Give me a drop of blood, I will give you independence.’
