Bye-election in Nandigama constituency in Krishna district began on peaceful note on Saturday.

About 10 per cent turnout was witnessed by 8 a.m. at Zilla Parishad high school in Paritala. Paritala is home town of TDP candidate Tangirala Sowmya, daughter of the deceased sitting legislator from Nandigama.

Webcasting is being done in 129 polling stations as against total stations of 200 in the constituency, which has a total electorate of 1.84 lakh.

Congress has fielded Bodapati Babu Rao, and two other independents are also in fray. Counting of votes is scheduled on sept 16.

The death of Tangirala Prabhakar of the TDP, who died of heart-attack days after getting elected to the first Assembly of new Andhra Pradesh in May this year necessitated the bypoll.
