Having their roots in the Congress, Telugu Desam leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S.R. Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy have no moral right to find fault with the party from which they originate, said speakers at a meeting of Congress activists in Vijayawada Central Assembly constituency here on Monday.
Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu presided over the meeting held in Payakapuram. Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, S. Sailajanath and Kanna Lakshminarayana addressed party workers at the meeting.
The speakers said that regional parties would come and go, but only a national party like the Congress could make a difference and continue forever.
Mr. Prasada Rao said that Mr. Naidu created several difficulties for farmers and was now acting as their well-wisher. Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was born in the Congress and thrived. He became a very big businessman and now he wants to become the Chief Minister to protect his businesses.
It would be better if he quit as the head of those business and entered politics to serve the people, he said.
He said that the Congress would sweep all the seats in the ensuing by-elections and in the general elections in 2014.
Mr. Sailajanath said that the regional party came up for very selfish political ends. He said that it was apt for the Congress to blow the bugle for the electoral battle from Vijayawada, the political capital of the State.
He said that Mr. Naidu and Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy should tell the public what they had done for the people till now before criticising the Congress and making tall claims about what they would do if they were elected to power.
Mr. Lakshminarayana said that the Opposition parties had launched a false propaganda against the ruling Congress on welfare measures. He said every party worker and sympathiser should repel the campaign.
Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said that new parties were like foam at the tip of a wave and they would die down just like that.
Former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar, DCC president Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao, city president Pyla Sominaidu, MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, former Mayor Mallika Beguam and others were present.
