Andhra Pradesh Municipal Employees Joint Action Committee (JAC) has decided to go on strike from Monday midnight in protest against the proposed bifurcation of State.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, JAC convener S. Krishna Mohana Rao said that excluding the emergency services, all others would come to a grinding halt in all municipal corporations, municipalities and Nagara panchayats in 13 districts. The employees and workers of the local bodies would take to streets to register their protest.
There were more than 25,000 employees, excluding contract and sanitation staff, working in the urban local bodies, he said, adding, that if required they would halt the emergency services like sanitation, water supply and street lighting too.
The AP Municipal Employees JAC would launch agitation in coordination with AP NGOs Association. The programmes chalked out by the NGOs Association would be implemented, in addition to the programmes chalked out by the Municipal JAC, he said.
Mr. Rao said that the JAC wanted the Congress party to roll back its decision to bifurcate the State. “The unilateral decision of AICC president Sonia Gandhi would badly hamper the progress in coastal districts. The Congress has not taken the sentiments of Telugus into consideration. The elected representatives should tender their resignations and join the agitation,” he said.
The Antony Committee or Congress AP affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh do not have any legal sanctity. Not even a Telugu person was there in the committee of the Congress. How can they understand the feelings and problems of the State?, he asked.
The JAC honorary chairman Ch. Srinivasa Rao, convener T. Venkataramaiah, AP State Municipal Commissioners Association treasurer S. Sivaramakrishna, AP Municipal Ministerial Association president S. Krishnamohan Rao, executive member Haribabu, VMC Employees Union president Eswar and others were present.
