Incessant rains continue to lash several parts of the State leaving many villages under a sheet of water and disrupting traffic on a few roads, including national highways passing through the coastal districts.
Crops in a few districts such as Guntur, West Godavari and Prakasam were inundated and normal life was affected. South Central Railway authorities had to take up repair works on the tracks at Peracherla on the outskirts of Guntur with rainwater overflowing on the tracks. In Vijayawada, Kanakadurga temple authorities suspended traffic on the ghat road as a precautionary measure.
Guntur received the highest rainfall of 9 cm till 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, followed by Narsapuram in West Godavari, which recorded 8 cm. Ongole, Srisailam, Kavali and other areas received 6 cm and rainfall occurred at many places in coastal A.P. and at isolated places over Rayalaseema.
Met authorities said the low pressure area was lying over West Central Bay of Bengal off North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coast. Moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over Coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions on Friday as well. A weather warning for fishermen asking them to be cautious was issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam.
