Modi urged to sanction funds fast

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to complete the Nabard formalities regarding Polavaram project at the earliest. He also appealed to Mr. Modi to sanction funds equivalent to Special Category Status to complete the Polavaram project on fast track by 2018. The Chief Minister inaugurated the heavy machinery to be used in the construction of Polavaram project at the project site.

Mr. Naidu said he asked the Prime Minister to process the release of funds. He said Rs. 1,800 crore was spent on Polavaram project so far. The State got an opportunity to realise the dream with the cooperation of the NDA. The Polavaram project was the rarest project in the world. While the Three Gorges dam capacity was only 48 lakh cusecs, the Polavaram discharge capacity was 50 lakh cusecs. The Telugu people have the capacity to achieve anything if water security was there, he said. In that direction, the government designed the spillways in such a way that 50 lakh cusecs can be discharged. About 1,490 lakh cubic metres earthwork has to be completed. So far, 410 lakh cubic metres works was completed. To accelerate the process, heavy machinery was being used, he said.
