Coinciding with the 125th birth anniversary of mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, a math lab was inaugurated at Sri Chaitanya International Olympiad School at Gayathri Nagar on Saturday.
V. Lakshmi Prasanna from Department of Maths in PB Siddhartha PG College, inaugurated the new facility. Addressing students on the occasion, she said maths is the mother of all sciences and it is not difficult to learn the subject for those who have desire to learn.
Principal V.N. Bhaskar, Vice-Principal B.V.S. Prasada Rao, Dean P. Sudhir Kumara and other staff members, students and their parents were present.
The occasion was also celebrated by students of Nalanda Vidya Niketan.
They cut a cake marking the birth anniversary of Ramajunan.
Head of the Maths Department N. Venkateswara Rao said in recognition of the extraordinary talent of Ramanujan in Mathematics, London Royal Society extended a membership and honoured the genius.
Deputy Education Officer, Krishna district, K. Durga Prasad, cited an example of the magnanimity of Ramanujan. Recalling the incident when Madras University granted a scholarship of 250 pounds to Ramanujan, he said he accepted it with profound gratitude and added in the same breath that since the amount was more than what he needed to fulfil his basic needs, it could be given to an orphanage or some other service organisation.
Later, geometry boxes were given to 450 students from C.V.R. School, B.S.R.K. School, Child Aid Foundation, Karanam Ram Manohar Rao Municipal School and G.D.E.T.M.C. School.
Children of Sai Aditya High School, Santhi Nagar organised a mathematics exhibition on the occasion. Different projects showing the importance of mathematics were made by the students.
DSP T. Ravindra Babu was the chief guest.
School director Y. Janaki Ram, principal K.L. Aparna participated.
Rich tributes were paid to Ramanujan, and children were exhorted to lay a solid foundation in mathematics to have a strong footing in science subjects.
