Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has said steps are being taken for procurement of fine quality turmeric at ₹6,500 per quintal by Markfed. It will purchase the secondary grades for ₹6,000 a quintal.

A total of 6.5 lakh quintals of turmeric was produced in the State and its procurement entailed an expenditure of ₹200 crore. The procurement would be at done at Duggirala (Guntur) and Kadapa market yards, he told media persons at Velagapudi on Wednesday.

Chillies

The price of turmeric plummeted from around ₹8,000 to ₹4,500 per quintal and Markfed was roped in come to the rescue of farmers.

Mr. Reddy said arrangements were being made for purchasing chillies grown in the tribal areas as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. He said a team of officials of the Uttar Pradesh Government would be soon visiting Andhra Pradesh to study the implementation of farm loan waiver scheme.

Minister for Marketing and Animal Husbandry C. Adinarayana Reddy also spoke.
