Lorry owners strike from April 1

March 30, 2013 02:35 pm | Updated 02:35 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Expressing solidarity with All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) which proposes to launch an indefinite strike from April 1 in protest against hike in the third party motor insurance premium, lorry owners in Krishna district will join the protest.

A decision to this effect was taken by the executive committee of The Krishna District Lorry Owners’ Association, said the Association president K.V. Ramesh on Friday.

Mr. Ramesh said transport operators had put forth 12 main demands before the government, including a roll-back of the hike in third party insurance premium and the toll permit issue.

The Association general secretary N. Raja said implementation of the proposed hike will push transport operators into financial crisis. He said truck operators across Krishna district must extend their cooperation to make the proposed bandh a success.

Their other demands are representation to the AIMTC in the committee that finalises the premium rates, implementation of toll permits on the lines of national permits, revision of diesel price once in six months instead of a monthly revision and a uniform diesel rate across the country.

Fixing of minimum freight rate for transport sector, immediate implementation of centralised RC book and steps to recognise transport sector as an industry.
