Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology was in news for a different reason on Tuesday. The students took to streets alleging that the lecturers were harassing them for trivial reasons.
The students assembled near the college gate to register their protest. They even approached the police to lodge a complaint against the management and lecturers. The police, however, pacified them and brought them back to college campus saying that the issue could be sorted out across the table.
The students allege that the management was collecting huge fines form them under the garb of violation of rules. The college is collecting fine even if a student fails to wear a belt, the students say.
But, the college management stoutly denied it. The college authorities, instead, blamed the students. The students were creating unnecessary ruckus and hullabaloo in the college as they were asked to attend the classes without fail, they said.
P. Sankar Rao, father of a student, who came to collect the transfer certificate (TC) of his son, said that the college management was laying unnecessary emphasis on trivial issues. “They (management) did not allow my son to attend the classes when he declined to pay fine for something he did not commit,” he said.
Mr. Rao even approached city Police Commissioner a couple of months ago to lodge a complaint against the college. “There was no positive response from the police. Had the police acted in time, the matter would not have precipitated,” he felt.
A team from JNTU-Kakinada also visited the campus to verify the facts following a complaint lodged by a parent sometime ago. The three-member team interacted with the management and lecturers. Former MLA Yelamanchili Ravi also took part in the deliberations.
Biometric systemThe students dispersed after the management announced that it would look into issues raised by them. College management sources say that they were planning to implement biometric attendance system shortly in the college. Attendance has been the bone of contention, sources say.
