KRUCET counselling: applied sciences in great demand

May 21, 2014 09:57 pm | Updated May 24, 2016 12:30 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Women bagged top ranks in various subjects in the Krishna University Common Entrance Test (KRUCET), and many have opted to pursue applied sciences during counselling for admissions to postgraduate courses offered by university.

University vice-chancellor Prof. V. Venkaiah commenced counselling at K.B.N College here on Wednesday. Among the top 10 rankers, eight are women. “Many, especially women, are applying for employment-oriented courses, and it is a good sign,” said Mr. Venkaiah. On the opening day, over 250 students took admissions. The counselling will continue on Thursday and Friday.

Interestingly, there were not many takers for journalism, conventional courses like Botany, Zoology, English and other courses.

For the convenience of students, who failed in single subjects, the university is conducting instant examination on June 9 at S.R.R College and Sharada College. All eligible candidates can attend the second phase of counselling, which will be conducted from June 15 to 20, the Vice-Chancellor said. On the demand for B.Tech courses, he said efforts were on to introduce B. Tech courses in three or four streams from next academic year.

Fire accident

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while after fire accident owing to short circuit on the second floor of the college premises. The authorities immediately switched off power supply and made alternate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the counselling on the first floor. None was injured in the incident.
