Seeking a record consecutive sixth term, former Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana filed his nomination papers for the Guntur West Assembly constituency on Thursday.
The senior Congress leader accompanied by Union Minister of State for Finance J. D. Seelam, VGTM UDA Chairman V. Srinivasa Reddy and Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Paduchri Venkateswarlu arrived at the GMC at 11 a.m. and submitted the nomination papers to Additional Commissioner and Returning Officer of Guntur West segment Sai Srikanth.
Mr. Lakshminarayana said he was confident of being re-elected as he had nurtured the constituency for the last five years. “I ensured that Guntur secured Rs. 460-crore World Bank funded drinking water project designed to meet the requirements for the next 40 years. The Road under Bridge at Kankaragunta is also being built at a cost of Rs.16 crore,” Mr. Lakshminarayana told media persons.
Citing the construction of ‘Shadi Khana,’ allotting burial ground to Christians, sanctioning of 5,000 houses and social security pensions to 11,000 beneficiaries, Mr. Lakshminarayana said he was confident that people would repose faith in him.
Mr. Lakshminarayana was elected from Pedakurapadu Assembly segment from 1989 till 2009. In 2009 general elections, he decided to contest from Guntur West, winning a closely fought triangular contest.
Facing his toughest election yet, Mr. Lakshminarayana said he was confident of his victory.
He is pitted against two formidable rivals -- Modugula Venugopala Reddy (TDP) and Lella Appireddy (YSRC).
