Vijayawada West Assembly constituency MLA-elect Jaleel Khan on Wednesday demanded that the Sri Durgamalleswara Swamy Varla temple authorities maintain quality of the laddu prasadam and give up the proposed move to shrink the size of the laddu.

In a statement, he alleged irregularities by the temple management and said it had succumbed to political pressures over allotment of spaces for shops, coffee vending stalls and water bottle outlets to private persons on the temple premises.

“At a snail’s pace”

Pointing to the fact that works for the construction of Rajagopuram, which commenced in 2009, were moving at a snail’s pace, he said it was time the authorities speeded up activities for the convenience of devotees.

‘Cancel tenders’

He demanded that the temple management cancel tenders issued for auction of sarees offered to the goddess by devotees. Compared to last year, the tender had been allotted at Rs. 40 lakh less this year, Mr Jaleel Khan pointed out.
