The resignation of YSR Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and party honorary Chairman Y.S. Vijayamma from Lok Sabha and State Assembly appears to have pepped up the leaders and cadres of the party in the Krishna district.
The resignation of Mr. Jagan and Ms. Vijayamma clearly indicates that the YSRC is in full support of Samaikyandhra, said YSRC Krishna district president Samineni Uday Bhanu. “Ours is the only party wherein all the 23 MLAs and the lone MP has resigned in support of Samaikyandhra,” he told The Hindu .
The party’s Vijayawada Central constituency in-charge P. Gowtham Reddy said that the cadres would take the agitation forward with renewed vigour from now. “We will not only join the APNGOs’ call for the agitation from August 12 midnight, but also continue our party’s agitation,” he said. The YSRC is planning relay fast from Sunday and indefinite fast would follow. The district leaders would meet shortly to chalk out a combined programme in the next couple of days, he said.
The YSRC leader and former MLA Vangaveeti Radha said that this was definitely a boost for the agitation. From the very beginning the party strongly decried the decision on bifurcation by the Congress Working Committee.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said that the Chief Minister should have made his point clear through a press meet long ago. What was the use of calling for a press meet now and he should tender his resignation if he strongly believed in Samaikyandhra, the YSRC leader said.
Both Mr. Radha and Mr. Gowtham Reddy were of the opinion that the YSRC would not join the political JAC formed by the Congress. “It is ridiculous to see Congress leaders advocating for a JAC, when it was the CWC that decided on the bifurcation,” said Mr. Radha.
Mr. Uday Bhanu pointed out that if the State was divided the Krishna and Godavari districts would not get water even for drinking. “Another Cauvery like issue will be born,” he observed.
