YSR Congress Party president and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday called on the agitating employees of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), who were observing relay fast demanding that the government pay salaries through the Treasury Department.
Mr. Jaganmohan, who resumed Odarpu Yatra in Guntur district from Tuesday, drove to Vijayawada from Gannavaram airport. He interacted with the agitating municipal employees and workers at the VMC office and extended his support to the protest.
JAC convener E. Eshwar, co-conveners J. James and David, and Ministerial Employees Association explained the demands to Mr. Jaganmohad Reddy.
Relay fast
The employees said though they were organising protests and observing relay fast for the past 15 days, the government had not responded to the agitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said the employees' families were facing severe financial crisis as the VMC was not paying salaries regularly.
Due to the negligent attitude of the government, about 4,000 regular staff and 3,000 contract workers were suffering, he said.
The YSR Congress party leader urged the State government to consider the fair demand of the corporation employees on humanitarian grounds and provide salaries through ‘010' account.
Meanwhile, CPI (ML) district secretary Muppalla Bhargavasri visited the fasting camp at VMC main gate and expressed his support to the employees.
Mr. Bhagavasri urged the government to concede the genuine demands of the employees and workers immediately.
