Mad rush: Private vehicle showrooms witnessed huge crowds with people making last minute efforts to buy BS-III vehicles, in Vijayawada on Friday.

It’s raining discounts on two-wheelers following a Supreme Court order banning registration of all BS-III emission compliant vehicles from April 1. The order came after repeated warnings on emission levels in cars and two-wheelers. While most car manufacturers have been complying with the SC guidelines, the two-wheeler manufacturers have taken it easy.

As dealers announced massive discounts ranging between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000, people made a beeline to show rooms. Reports across districts suggested that there was heavy booking on popular models.

“The discounts in the scooter segment varied from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 on popular models like Honda Activa, Honda Activa-I, and Hondo Deo.

The discounts in the motorcycle segment varied from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. We have so far sold 183 vehicles in the last two days,” said General Manager of Amaravathi Motors, Najeeb Basha. Many of the prospective buyers lapped up the opportunity, just days after the Telugu New Year was ushered in.

The customers were asked to bring the original Aadhar card and other documents for temporary registration.

“I have been planning to buy a motorcycle but the sudden offer was a welcome surprise. I exchanged my old bike for ₹10,000 and bought a new Honda Dream bike for a good deal,’’ said K. Mastan Rao from Nehru Nagar. The Road Transport Authority also witnessed a spike in registrations. Deputy Transport Commissioner said that there were about 2,000 offline registrations and 650 online registrations during the last two days mopping up ₹1.58 crore.
