I will not resign again, says MP

January 27, 2012 01:11 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 01:10 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

There is no provocation for film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna to ask him to resign and contest again, said Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal here on Thursday.

When contacted for his reaction to the actor's statement challenging Mr. Rajagopal to resign and contest again, the MP told The Hindu that he was not interested in resigning for the sake of politics and will not contest in a by-election if he resigns for a public cause.

“I had resigned for a public cause some time ago, but withdrew it when the public purpose was fulfilled,” he reiterated.

He questioned as to what benefit Mr. Balakrishna would derive out of his resignation and it was he who wanted to contest against someone else.

“There are many by-elections coming up in the State, let him contest in one of them and I am not interested in resigning now for no public cause,” he said.

“I have clarified several times that I will not contest by-elections if I resign once. I have full term to complete and am not thinking of resigning,” he added.
