The City came alive and was virtually dipped in religious fervour with the priests from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams performing the celestial wedding of Lord Sri Venkateswara here at the PWD Grounds on Sunday.
The venue was decked up to welcome a mammoth gathering. Hundreds of people gathered to witness the special programme. The processional deities were brought from Tirumala for the special pujas performed on the occasion.
The ringing of bells, beating of drums, and the chiming of cymbals resonated throughout the grounds. Devotees experienced a deep sense of spiritual fulfilment as Vedic hymns were chanted along with rendition of Annamacharya kirtans.
The environs were spruced up to suit the occasion. The organisers put up replicas of the Tirumala hills, temple, and statues of Garuda, Lord Venkateswara Swamy, and goddess Padmavathi Devi. The temple, the hills, the ‘Sankha’, ‘Chakra’, and ‘Tirunama’ were a treat to watch. The City-based Lakshmi Srinivasa Vasavi Seva Samithi conducted the ‘Srivari Kalyanam’.
The samithi has been organising the event since 2007 to commemorate its anniversary in December. The TTD has agreed to send the processional deities to perform the ritual, the samithi says.
The Samithi made elaborate arrangements for the event. Seating arrangement was made for 12,000 people. Separate galleries had been put up for VIPs, VVIPs, and the general public. The samithi, with the support from donors, made arrangements for distribution of ‘prasadam’ to the devotees.
