Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner G. Veerapandian has asked the sanitary wing officials to levy a penalty of Rs.10,000 against the hotel managements which dump trash on the city roads.
During his inspection at K. Subbarao High School on Friday, the Municipal Commissioner expressed displeasure on noticing trash strewn on the roads in the locality.
Pointing to the heaps of garbage near a hotel, he asked the officials to levy a penalty on the management, if they failed to fall in line.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Veerapandian inspected Brahmanaveedi, Kothapeta Fish market, Ganapatirao road and other areas.
Despite the provision of dumper bins, the operators of many outlets were dumping waste on the roads and street corners in the localities. In a bid to prevent this, Mr. Veerapandian asked officials to collect waste from the outlets during late nights or at their convenience and transport the same directly to the dumping yard. This would help in ensuring hygiene and cleanliness on the roads, he said.
Garbage collection
As part of his inspection, he also visited the Corporation’s vehicles depot and instructed the supervisors there to ensure that garbage collection vehicles hit the roads by 6 a.m. daily. All the regular practices, including fuel filling in the vehicles should be completed by 5 a.m. and the vehicles should reach the assigned localities for garbage collection. Departmental action would be initiated against the employees, if they failed to adhere to the timings, the Municipal Commissioner warned.
