The 144 birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday was the perfect day to create awareness on biodiversity.
A painter and sculptor of eminence, Joint Director Social Welfare R. Mallikarjuna Rao chose to relate non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi, his policy of Vegetarianism and the hot topic of need to maintain natural food in-tact without over exploitation of any specific species that snaps the food chain. The Government official is drawing a series of 12 paintings to display them at a venue related to CoP- II deliberations in Hyderabad on October 9, and chose to show a preview of the series on biodiversity, which had relevance with the Gandhian thought process.
In his three feet by two feet painting, the Mahatma is seen walking away from a non-vegetarian-hungry human race, which leaving aside the domesticated animals, had begun poaching on the wild varieties too for their exotic taste appeal and destroying the crucial food link detrimental to the human race.
Making this frame a mixture of vibrant colours and black and white lines, Mr. Mallikarjuna Rao is finalising other frames by painting a couple on his pet subject of Lord Buddha also.
