About 100 students of NTR College of Veterinary Sciences at Gannavaram scaled the college terrace and dome demanding immediate withdrawal of Government Order No.91 that allegedly discriminates students from Zones 1 to 4 in other than Telangana region in admissions.
Students led by A. Bhagya Raj, Salma, and S. Varalakshmi alleged that only 70 of the 109 vacancies were filled with students from the Zone 5, that too with lesser merit, so the rules should be changed and meritorious students be given a chance to get jobs. The agitation was on for the past 32 days and the students had met the Chief Minister seven days ago to get the things right by talking to Chief Secretary M.V. Reddy.
The method of selection needed to be changed, they said and the file was sent by GAD to the Law Department, but the department did not respond. Seniors such as Mounika and Tejswani, who got 80 per cent marks and passed out from these four regions, were ignored and those with 50 per cent and 60 per cent in the Telangana region were selected for the jobs, they pointed out. This was part of the State-wide agitation by the veterinary college students against the GO 91.
