The premises of Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), a city-based NGO, has transformed into a creative zone dotted with women at the grass root level bringing to the fore their innovative streak.
Remarkable job
To mark the International Women’s Day, the VMM organised a three-day workshop on women skill development. The 50-odd participants did a remarkable job of designing articles that reflect the precision and proficiency went into them albeit without a brand name.
The three-day exhibition, inaugurated on Monday, offers hand-crafted designer garments, khadi-spun saris and Punjabi suits, home décor articles, gift items and organic food items among several other knick-knacks.
Advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) C.S. Rama Lakshmi, inaugurated the event. Krishna Zilla Parishad chairperson Gadde Anuradha was present. They went around the stalls and interacted with the participants.
Addressing them, Ms. Rama Lakshmi said women, especially from the lower strata of society, try to supplement their spouse’s income by doing their mite. She said the government’s effort was to provide marketing facility to the products designed by such innovative individuals.
Ms. Anuradha said she would extend all help to realise the government slogan of women empowerment. She said she may not physically visit them on a regular basis, but she would like to be informed about their day-to-day problems and do her bit to sort them out.
