Labour officials stress importance of physical activity

: Joint Commissioners of Labour (JCLs) M.N. Varahala Reddy and B. Ajay inaugurated sports and cultural events being organised by the Labour Department in connection with May Day, at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Friday.

About 200 workers employed in factories, industries, cinema halls, mechanic sheds, shops and other establishments, who are paying the employee welfare fund, are participating in the two-day programmes.

“The government is organising sports and cultural programmes for workforce to relieve the workers from stress and encourage them in different fields. Games, sports, yoga and other physical activity and cultural activities will keep the body fit,” said Mr. Varahala Reddy.

As many as 2,000 artists and players participated in the zone-level competitions organised in four zones across the State, said Krishna District Deputy Commissioner of Labour N. Suryanarayana.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Labour Minister K. Atchannaidu will distribute prizes to the winners during the May Day celebrations, said Mr. Varahala Reddy. Labour officers, assistant labour officers and other staff are coordinating the events.
