‘Govt. eyes double digit growth’

The State government is evolving a comprehensive strategy to achieve double digit growth rate in the State, said Special Chief Secretary, Department of Planning, S. P. Tucker here on Wednesday.

“We are planning to reach 12 to 13 per cent growth rate and plans have been chalked out on how to achieve it,” he said. He was addressing participants at a conference organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with a theme ‘AP as a logistics nerve centre’ in connection with its annual meeting here through a video conference from Hyderabad.

Construction, logistics, education and health sectors would enable the government in achieving the target, he opined. A logistics hub between Visakhapatnam and New Delhi could be developed as the State had a large sea coast. Seafood exports touched Rs.1,200 crore last year and it could add another Rs.4,000 crore this year. The exports could touch Rs.25,000 crore during the next few years, he hoped adding efforts were on to improve brand of fisheries sector in the State.

He said several companies from Japan were planning to set their establishments here.
