Global meet on energy-efficient lighting on April 7, 8

The city will host an international workshop on ‘Energy efficient lighting: Urban experiences and implementation practices’ on April 7 and 8.

Delegates from 35 countries including China, Canada, Japan, UK, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico and senior executives of World Bank, AFD, Kfw and other institutions are expected to take part in the event being organized by the Government of India to showcase the energy efficiency initiatives of Andhra Pradesh. State Energy Conservation Mission CEO A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy stated in a press release that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would launch the distribution of energy efficient fans, replacement of two lakhs inefficient agricultural pumps with energy-efficient and smart pumps. Replacement of remaining incandescent bulbs with LEDs would be done within a year for all categories of consumers and the CM would dedicate the LED Street Lights Project that was completed in 30 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

Meanwhile, the State Government has proposed to distribute five more LED bulbs each on need basis to SC/ST/BC families for improving their living standards and save considerable amounts in their electricity bills.

The additional bulbs are proposed to be made available at just Rs. 10 each and recover the balance cost of the bulbs from the SC/ST Sub-Plan funds and other funds available for the BCs. The Energy Department has been ordered to vigorously implement the star-rated appliances and equipment programme.
