A first year Intermediate student, Sri Vidya (16), allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at the college hostel at Sri Chaitanya Junior College at Nidamanuru, on the city outskirts.

Her classmates who found her hanging to the ceiling in the wee hours on Saturday alerted the college staff who in turn informed the Patamata police.

According to Patamata Circle Inspector K. Damodar, the girl, a native of Badvel of Kadapa district, was studying first year M.P.C in the college. Her parents gave her adoption to their relatives. The victim was not happy with the decision.

In a suicide note left behind, the victim expressed her love towards her parents, said the CI.

Sri Chaitanya College staff said that Sri Vidya was a brilliant student and scored 9.7 cumulative grade points average in her SSC. She used to be friendly with her classmates and roommates, said the students.

The body was sent for post-mortem. A case under Section 174 CrPc (Suspicious death) has been registered and investigation is on, said Mr. Damodar.
