The Government Railway Police arrested four persons including a woman on Sunday and seized 85 kg. of ganja from their possession, said Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Ch. Syamprasad.
Speaking to the newsmen here on Monday, the SRP said that on a tip off the Railway Police lead by Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police D.N. Mahesh and Inspector of Railway Police N. Chiranjeevi arrested four persons – Ashok Kushwa, Kasiram Kushwa, Kishore Irawar and Sheela Irawar – on Platform No.7 at Vijayawada.
The accused were natives of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, and were transporting the contraband in nine bags. During interrogation they confessed to have procured 85 kg. of ganja, worth about Rs.5 lakh from one Gollapalli Nageswara Rao, of Bylapudi village in Visakhapatnam district. The fifth accused, Nageswara Rao, is at large. Police are investigating on whether other persons were involved in the racket. Cases were registered against the accused under sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1989, said Mr. Syamprasad. The SRP complimented SI M. Satyanarayana, head constable K.V. Satyanarayana, constables P. Narasimha Rao and S.A. Baig who busted the racket and arrested the accused.
