A grand farewell ceremony was organised for Bishop of Vijayawada Catholic church Mallavarapu Prakash, who will take up the responsibility of Archbishop of Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The huge gathering at Bishop Grassi High School here on Tuesday praised the work of the Bishop in Vijayawada for the past decade. They all agreed that his services to the society were immeasurable. Bishop Mallavarpu Prakash had done a lot of activities to make the life of people better and secured a place in people’s hearts said, Monsignor Chinappa.
Bishop Mallavarapu Prakash said that he would never forget the support and co-operation the city Catholics had given him during his service in Vijayawada. No matter where he might be, he will always help the Vijayawada Catholic Church if the need arises, assured the Bishop.
Bishop M. Prakash, born in 1949 in Nizamabad district, was first appointed as Catholic preacher in 1979. After working in various places like Hyderabad and Kadapa and getting a master’s degree in theology from Loyola University in Chicago, he was sworn in Bishop in Vijayawada. During his decade-long service in the city, he was twice appointed C.C.B.I Secretary and even took up the additional responsibilities of Eluru Catholic church administrator.
Gunadala Mary Matha Church Rector Monsignor Chinappa, Social Service Centre Director Father Muvvala Prasad, Vijayawada Catholic Church Procreator Father M. Gabriel and other fathers, sisters, brothers and Catholics participated in this ceremony.
