In-charge Director General of Police (DGP) Nanduri Sambasiva Rao took stock of the situation in the State immediately after assuming charge on Saturday.
Mr. Rao acquainted himself with the major issues and reviewed the law and order at a meeting attended by DGPs, IGPs, DIGs and SPs here.
He appealed to the police officers to work in coordination during the ensuing Krishna Pushkarams and make arrangements for the convenience of the devotees.
“Krishna Pushkarams are the first and main task for me. We want to conduct the utsavams in a peaceful manner and all the officers should work as a team for the success,” Mr. Rao said.
Stating that Andhra Pradesh faced many challenges post bifurcation, the in-charge DGP asked the police personnel to focus on cyber crime, which was increasing by 42 per cent yearly.Social media
As a first initiative to encourage the officers, Mr. Sambasiva Rao created a group in social media so that the officers can keep in touch with him and communicate their work. The officers should align themselves to the Chief Minister’s vision and government’s priorities, he said.
“Discipline and team work will improve the quality of work and pave way for professional policing. My priority is to bring a change in the department in 60 days,” said Mr. Rao and stressed the need for shifting police headquarters from Hyderabad to Amaravati as early as possible.
The Police Department should go ahead in implementing citizens’ services and ensure that the complainants leave the police stations on a happy note.
“Police will approach the Government of India and the State government for upgradation of Police Training Centres, Forensic Science Laboratory and other facilities in AP. We will make an effort to reduce the response time for a complaint,” the DGP said.
