Ensure code compliance, Guntur Collector tells parties

In all, 35,32,045 voters will excise their franchise in the general elections to be held in May in the district, District Election Officer and Collector S. Suresh Kumar has said. Out of them, 17,89,834 are women and 17,41,907 men.

Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, Mr. Suresh Kumar said the administration had arranged 3,739 polling stations. If a polling booth has more than 1,400 voters, an additional booth would be set up in the locality.

Eligible persons who have not enrolled their names in the voters’ list can do so by submitting Form 6 to the Booth Level Officers, who will be available at the polling stations concerned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 9.

Names of new voters would be included in the voters’ list by the time of the final draft notification (April 12) after verification, he said.

All-party meeting

Earlier, addressing representatives of various political party leaders, Mr. Suresh Kumar said the code of conduct was in force and all the political parties were requested to follow it strictly.

The expenditure eligibility for a candidate contesting the parliamentary seat is Rs.70 lakh and Assembly seat Rs.28 lakh.

Monitoring committees would be appointed at the mandal-level for observing the code and expenditure limits. Campaigning and awareness meetings on the code, expenditure, dos and don’ts would be organised at the constituency level across the district, the Collector said.

Joint Collector Vivek Yadav, Additional Collector K. Nageswara Rao, District Revenue Officer K. Naga Babu, and leaders of various political parties attended.
