July 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:20 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Energy Department has prepared an action plan to plant one lakh saplings at generating stations, substations, departmental buildings and staff quarters in tune with the State government's policy to transform the State into ‘Haritandhra Pradesh’. The scheme has been named Haritha Power Stations (HPS). Disclosing these details in a review meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday, Energy Secretary Ajay Jain directed the officials concerned to make it mandatory to plant a large number of saplings before commissioning of substations and generating stations.

Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu directed all the departments, including the Energy Department, during the recent secretaries' meeting to take up the above project in a big way, he said.

AP-Genco MD and AP-Transco CMD K. Vijayanand informed that a high-level committee comprising CMDs of AP-Transco, DISCOMs, Advisor of Energy Department and Director (Finance) of AP-Transco would be set up for monitoring the implementation of HPS project as well as protecting the planted saplings. Similarly, district-level committees are being set up.

A large chunk (54,380) of the targeted one lakh saplings are to be planted at the 2,719 33-KV substations. The generating stations will have 13,000 saplings planted. Mr. Vijayanand will inaugurate the HPS project on July 29 at Kurnool.
